What are NFT-games: Mechanics, Examples and Possible Earnings

In this article, I’m going to cover the topic of today’s popular NFT games. I’ll explain how they differ from the usual browser games, mobile and computer games, how they are backed by guarantees of payments and what you need to start playing and earning in such projects.

How NFT games work

An NFT is a non-exchangeable token which is a cryptographic unique key that provides the user with possession of a unique digital object. It can be an image, music or video. NFT game developers use blockchain technology to create an entire world or make certain items unique, which distinguishes such projects from the usual games.

We can say that right now the NFT-games industry is just in its infancy because the technology is not widely known. There are often scam projects, and most of these games are similar to the browser games of ten years ago. In the future, this technology is sure to grow in popularity and become a means of making money for thousands of people.

The gameplay itself in NFT games is often already familiar. This can be a classic sandbox, platformer, turn-based PVP-fighter, KKI or strategy. The main difference is just in the items themselves or even the cards, which in normal games do not have any value. For example, if you buy in Assassin`s Creed some costume, you can wear it only on your character, and sell it to someone else is not possible. The use of NFT technology makes it possible to transfer or sell items to other users. There are even special marketplaces where such tokens are traded. Some people don’t even play the games themselves, but only buy items to sell them at a higher price.

Each NFT game has its own peculiarities, so I gathered some popular projects to tell how developers implemented blockchain technology in them and how they make money for usual players.

The Sandbox

Let’s start with The Sandbox, because it’s not just a game with NFT elements, but a meta universe, i.e. a digital world with its own features. Gameplay is built around the fact that users run around the map, perform various activities and engage in construction. You can compare Sandbox to Meinkraft, as the building process and the graphics themselves are a bit similar.

The main value in the Sandbox is the lands. The metaworld is in the form of a map. Each user can buy a specific piece of land for a specific price. Many lands are already owned by various sponsoring companies. This is usually where the most activity is located. The closer a piece of land is to such a popular location, the more expensive it will be, since its owner will be rewarded for visiting the area. The Sandbox metacomplex map and buying land for money.

Drunk Robots

The project Drunk Robots appeared not so long ago and is now only at the stage of its development. This is a browser-based game that has collected a few different mini-games. As the NFT here are implemented robots themselves, carts for racing and various items. Buying a robot you can fight with other players in PVP-format, participate in races or send all your robots to mine a token (it’s called steaking).

This is what you earn on the project – you buy yourself NFT, in order to get a token in the form of cryptocurrency and to withdraw it to your wallet. You can play free mini-games to get some tokens at the end of the week, if you get to the leaderboard, scoring 100 points.

The principle of buying NFTs for capital appreciation is what many NFT projects are based on. You buy something so that the item earns you a project token or a certain cryptocurrency. NFTs themselves are also valuable and can be resold at a higher price (if the project doesn’t scam and close).

League of Ancients

League of Ancients is a MOBA like League of Legends or Dota. It is available on both PC and smartphone. You fight in a 5 on 5 format and get rewards for victories. NFT are made in the form of in-game items, and the developers have also introduced their token, which is traded on some exchanges.

This is another example of game where the main attention is given to gameplay and then to NFT trading and earning. We won’t dwell on League of Ancients for a long time. All the necessary information about this project you can read on the official site and watch video reviews of the users who earned some money with this game.

Gods Unchained.

In its time, just a year ago, the collectible card game Gods Unchained made a stir, because it was a classic game, but with an element of NFT. Each card is unique and can be sold or traded. That’s the value, because you’re not just building a digital collection of cards that you can’t put away, you can sell them to buy other cards from the deck or simply withdraw money.

The format of the game is very similar to the same Hearthstone in both gameplay and mechanics. You can get NFT card packs for free for the rewards that are given out after the weekend event. You have to win a certain number of weekend games (the number depends on your rank in the game) to get the packs. You can then open these packs, use the cards you receive in your decks, or sell them on the marketplace.

Along with the cards you are also given a token, for which you can buy these same packs, individual cards, or exchange it for other cryptocurrency to withdraw. Card prices, as well as the token itself, often change, all depending on the popularity of specific decks and the game itself. For now, participating in a weekend event is the only way to get free NFT cards for sale. In the future, they promise to make daily rewards so you just play and get paid for it.

Skyweaver

I’ll conclude with another card game with NFT elements, which to me is the brightest representative of CCIs to date. First, the mechanics are not copied and the entire gameplay feels new (for those who have tried these games before). Secondly, you can get all the base cards right during the game, increasing your level. You can’t sell them, but you can keep playing, earning those cards that are already sellable.

Once you reach a certain rating, you will receive silver cards, each worth an average of $1.50. Along with these cards is a pass to the arena. In this arena, you have to win 3 times in a row to get a random gold card. Gold card can be sold for $10-15, after which the money will be immediately credited to a wallet in the USDC and available for withdrawal.

It turns out that anyone can play Skyweaver with elements of NFT for free and get money for his skill. The better you play, the more you can earn and withdraw. Some people manage to get more than $100 a day without a penny invested in the game, just by showing good results.

Warning

Be vigilant when choosing NFT games that you plan to not just play, but consider as an investment. There is absolutely no guarantee that any project will last for many years, its token and items will not depreciate, and you will not only be able to earn, but also withdraw your money. Always read the Tweets of companies that develop such games, see who is subscribed to them, look for the WhitePaper (a white paper – all the company’s plans for the future are written in it). Assess the risks and never spend all your savings.
